Celtic under 20′s lose 1-0 to St Pauli, as we turn our eyes to the Champions League

New Keeper Craig Gordon started in goal today

New Keeper Craig Gordon started in goal today

AUTHOR: Shaun Gibson

Training match today, Celtic and Ronny took a very young side over to Germany to play St Pauli and to be fair to the kids they could have been beaten heavily with St Pauli missing many chances. Celtic had 2 chances in the final minutes to score, a penalty miss, a bad one way over the bar from Atajic and a shot from Watt one on one with the keeper

The first half seen Balde and a few others miss early chances, the substitution of Balde at half time, if he wasn’t injured I think tells a story, the lad isn’t good enough. He may be injured but he didn’t look to be. The first half St Pauli got the only goal of the game from Christopher Nothe and the same player missed an open goal in the 2nd half

These kids are our future, many didn’t play near where they can a few played very well. Henderson although not mentioned a lot I thought had a decent game and also O’Connell who threw his body at a few shots from the edge of the box. All in a good workout for Ronny, he will know a lot more now than he did a week ago.

So we now turn to Wednesday the 30th, Legia Warsaw away in Poland in the Qualifiers for the Champions league where we will see the first team and I think a win. Legia are not so good right now, being away first is always better as we can get them back to Edinburgh for our 2nd and last game at Murryfield and finish the job there, I will do a report on Legia on Tuesday at some point, see who they have and how they play

TCN will be there with live text commentary, I will be there, I hope you will be also

Starting 11 today:
Gordon, Herron, OConnell, Findlay, Twardzik, Henderson, Bitton, McGeouch, Atajic, Balde, Watt

Bench :
Zaluska, Waters, McManus, Irvine, McMullan, Fraser, Lindsay

Celtic were superb tonight

Celtic were superb tonight

AUTHOR: Shaun Gibson 119da003c51c5a5580876683884846aa

Celtic were breathtaking tonight as we done the job we came through to Edinburgh to do. We can see the style Ronny is wanting us to play slowly come through, he has so many strikers on the park. Tonight ended 4-0 but could easily have been 10-0 with Commons either hitting the post of having shots saved. All in it was a training match as Celtic now await the winners of Cliftonville v Legia Warsaw (1-1) in Ireland tomorrow.

Celtic took the lead on 13 minutes, corner on the far side, Commons floated it in, Lustig headed back towards goal, Van Dijk was there to make it 1-0 on the night.

Van Dijk got the first 2 goals

Van Dijk got the first 2 goals

We had to wait just over 5 minutes for 2-0, same players involved, Commons corner, headed back to the back post by Lustig and there was Van Dijk to head home. At this stage Celtic were rampant, and we are still looking for full fitness. We are still in Pre-Season mode, so the performance tonight was even more brilliant when you add that in

3-0 came on 26 minutes when Pukki, who had missed a few chances got on the end of a McGregor cross before the KR keeper and a well deserved goal by Pukki. Celtic had chance after chance. We hit the post, the bar, crosses across the KR goal. But it is still early, so far the signs look superb. Ronny is still unbeaten as Celtic Manager

The tie is was as good as over as Celtic lead 4-0 on aggregate. Virgil van Dijk profited from a couple of goalkeeping blunders and Teemu Pukki added the third goal at Murrayfield. It’s been a stroll in the park for Ronny Deila’s men

The 2nd half saw much of the same, the passing was superb, left to right, back and forward, we made KR  chase so hard they tired badly. Celtic could have scored a ton in Edinburgh tonight but to be fair the KR keeper made a lot of good saves. Pukki I was delighted for, we are slowly seeing a player find form, on 70 minutes Pukki  rounded the keeper and hammered the ball high into the goal. We seen Kayal, Henderson and Matthews come on tonight and even with players missing or off the park Celtic just oozed confidence. I am liking this new style but we must be realistic, we were not playing a world beater tonight

Pukki gets the first of his two, this one thanks to McGregor

Pukki gets the first of his two, this one thanks to McGregor

Professional job by Celtic, 5-0 on aggregate and we look forward to the next round. If tonight’s display is anything to go by, we will sail past whoever we face

Final score Celtic 4-0 KR Reykjavik (5-0 on aggregate)

TCN Man of the match, Johansen, the lad controlled most of what we did but we had a few we could pick. Johansen is a fine player and like many are showing they will get better and better under the new manager

Youthful 10 men Celtic put Linz to the sword 5-2 – Goals Video

Coming good?

Coming good?

A very youthful Celtic team took on Austrian Liga 1 outfit Lask Linz. The scores in pre-season I never really look towards as a guide to how the season ahead will go, but with a new manager I think it’s safe to say things are looking very good. Also anyone wondering how the Youth setup is going at Lennoxtown only need to look at last night’s game as a guide, the young boys were SUPERB. The sending off with Henderson was stupid on the Ref’s part as he let strong challenges go all over the park. Pukki is now 4 goals in 2 games and is REALLY looking like the poacher we need. With a Scandinavian manager in place I think it’s fair to say Pukki will be happier knowing his new manage knows more about him than his last manager.

Celtic were 1-0 then in an instant 1-1, then 2-1 down and within a minute 2-2, both goals from Pukki. The youthful Celtic defence took a while to get up to speed against the opposition. One thing I did notice was a total change in the way we are playing. We play from the back, the keepers seldom kick long and give to fullbacks or a free centre half, so far, slowly, we can see a good way of playing coming.

It will take time, but you can see the seeds have been planted and on the 11th when we play Dukla Prague we will see a stronger side with the older more experienced players come in. Maybe there is an argument why should they as the kids have done well, but we must be realistic, it will take these kids a while to get used to adult’s football at the highest level. McGregor for me is just a brilliant player, Henderson run the middle of the park till he was sent off and what a surprise to see young winger Dylan McGeouch play in the middle of the park and how well the kid done.

Pukki got his hat-trick, Griffiths and Balde making the 5 goals. So we seen our future play last night and I was very impressed. The opposition were older and more experienced but that never fazed these kids, they played with a freedom maybe not allowed before.

It is early days but we can see Ronny is setting us up well. Even at 10 men we were 4-2-3, he still wanted to keep the opposition on the back foot, and it worked. I think we are in for a brilliant journey under our new manager and the players he will use. The rumour about Samaras coming back to Celtic is a real one, talks have taken place, that is all I know. Sammy isn’t worried about money, he wants to play for Celtic and with the attacking style we now have maybe Sammy will be good for us, of course it is just talk. I certainly would rather see Sammy than a 39 year old Del Piero.

Good 5-2 win by the kids and a few of the experienced players.

I will be here on the 11th with life text commentary

Hail Hail

Goals thanks to the amazing

FK Krasnodar…1

Odil 19

When a manager arrives to take a new side all the wants is to hit the ground running. Celtic fans being very demanding expect Celtic to win dominos in a local pub, so a win was vital for the confidence of the new manager, his staff and players

The first half was a good game and Celtic found themselves 1-0 after 50 seconds, a high ball over the top from Lustig, the keeper had committed half way, Stokes lobbed the keeper for a brilliant goal and a superb start for the new manager

On 19 minutes the score was 1-1, defensive slip saw the Krasnodar striker race through on goal and slip the ball past Zaluska. We could have been 2-1 or 3-1 down in this 5 minute period, Mulgrew was tucking too far over towards left back to help F. Twardzik leaving Van Dijk alone with only Brown and Johansen remotely close to help. Celtic sorted this problem by getting Brown to sit deeper and it worked very well, and already I can see our new manager can make tactical changes to actually change a game. Because after that Celtic had a few half chances

On 38 minutes Celtic made it 2-1 with a superb goal. Utter determination from Norwegian Johansen chasing what looked like a lost cause, beat two Russian defenders to the ball, rounded the keeper and from an acute angle, great through ball by Commons and quality for my Man of the Match for the first half.

Half time – Celtic 2-1 FC Krasnodar

The second half seen almost every player replaced and the side were so young, Matthews  I think was the oldest defender. I must say a year in England at Nott’s County for Callumn McGregor can be the making of this kids Celtic career, he was superb throughout the 2nd half, all over the park, breaking play up, squaring the ball 5 yards and pinging long passed 50 yards, for me McGregor was the 2nd half man of the match

We seen Leonardo Fasan in goal, Adam Matthews, Eoghan O’Connell, Calum Waters, Stuart Findlay, Callumn McGregor, Pukki, Griffiths, Kayal, Atajic replace the entire first half team. Young Italian keeper Leonardo Fasan showed us all why he is so highly rated at Celtic with several stunning displays, Matthews added good width  I don’t think Boerrigter or McGeouch gave us in the 1st half. Henderson and Kayal were chasing everything and, well McGregor, really, amazing this kid was. I know it’s pre-season but all the talk about him last year in England with is goals, it was easy to see why Nott’s County wanted to keep him, I think it’s safe to say he has a future at Celtic.

5 minutes into the 2nd half a pass drilled from the right by Atajic was hammered home by McGregor and boy was he happy. He knows he has a chance at Celtic under Ronny. The 2nd half was almost a midfield game, Fasan saved well several times, Griffiths and Pukki had shots saved and deflected wide

So first game and I seen a Celtic team really close down hard, every player was giving 100%, we were good in possession, we took our chances when they came. And already you can see Ronny has made his mark on our team. The width is something we need to address, with James Forrest out for weeks already at the start of this season we have Adam Matthews who I think can play right wing. I am yet to be convinced by either Boerrigter or McGeouch but we must give them time under the new regime

Great start, all it is. But a brilliant start against a very good outfit.

See you all Sunday against Rapid Vienna at a 5pm kick off

Till then, Hail Hail

New Celtic manager Ronny Deila and ex player John Collins as his assistant

New Celtic manager Ronny Deila and ex player John Collins as his assistant

AUTHOR: Shaun Gibson

On paper looking at John Collins coming in as Ronny Deila’s assistant looks like a good match up, with John Kennedy coming in as a coach I think we have a cracking three man staff right there. But this is the touchline side of things, there are so many important people in the back like Celtic chief scout john park and the rest of the team that Lennon had to help him. Peter Houston left Celtic as a scout last week to take the Falkirk job and couldn’t speak highly enough about the set-up we have

I love Ronny already he speaks a language I understand and you can see the confidence just ooze from him. Where I think Celtic lacked under Lenny was fitness and brining in Collins I think was something that was done to get our players fitter. There was a well known bust up with John Collins and Scott Brown when Collins was manager of Brown at Hibernian. The story I heard and I hear them all through here in Edinburgh was Collins used to show off his six pack, Scott Brown said something one day, Collins offered a bench press competition there and then and Brown won and that was a time where I think Collins lost the dressing room at Hibs. All that aside, Roony Collins and now Brown have laid this to rest, but the media won’t let this one go, so expect a few photos of Brown and Collins being friends in the media at some point. Also we have had small injuries to players for the past few seasons, maybe a total hands on manager in Roony and a fitness freak in Collins might fix this

So what have we got here? We have a young exiting manager who knows he still has to learn but by all accounts he is a fast learner. I did a blog a few weeks back showing how our new manager sets his side up http://thecelticnetwork.com/blog/2014/06/06/welcome-ronny-deila-celtic-perfect-tactics/  Here is our new Managers thoughts on bringing in Collins to assist

What I have seen so far is a manager who can change a game with his tactics, a manager who gets very close to his men. With Collins we have a really good coach and if Roony wants to get the bhoys fitter then look no further than John Collins. Where  they both excel as manager and coach is their detail for perfection, the  small things. What the players wear, time keeping, team work, the things that really make a team tick, we have this with both Roony and Collins. With John Kennedy getting promoted to the 1st team I see a youthful touchline. Attention to detail will improve and I do expect tactics to be better. Lenny had a habit of playing favourites, I don’t think will be the case now. Lenny didn’t do wrong, just sometimes he showed too much faith in certain players, but I  guess this happens all over

With our new manager showing the confidence as the new ‘Chosen One” I can’t wait for the new  season to start. Many are drawing parallels with Tony Mowbray, I never once seen this confidence in Mowbray from day one till the day he left and stating he didn’t enjoy the job, I think we  have  two lads now that will be perfectionists. I look at what we have here and I think I like this more I would have had it been Roy Keane or Davie Moyes. This is new, unknown and this is what Celtic do, over the last few years we have brought in young talent and many have excelled and went on to either sign new deals or leave like Hooper and Wanyama, so this is perfect for Celtic’s working model right now. Manager an Assistant have one year to prepare for the probable invasion of new Glasgow side Sevco into the league. We are seeded right through all the stages to the Champions League and I have a real good feeling about these two. They already have a team in place, maybe Forster will go, if England lose tonight we might not get offers and he stays, if so he has a good side. Roony hinted there were a few positions he needs to look at, I would say left hand side of the park, an attacking midfielder and a striker and maybe another centre half

I think we can all look forward to the coming season, the expectations on the shoulders of our new managerial team is heavy but Roony strikes me as a man who thrives under pressure, he needs the pressure, he has to have something to drive him on. He talks good and I really do think with the players he has, players he might bring in, he will do well. I think it’s a perfect two for Celtic, many will disagree but when we talk tactics and fitness I truly believe these two issues will improve

Lets get behind our new managerial team

Hail Hail

Welcome Ronny Deila to Celtic, with his perfect tactics

New Celtic manager Ronny Deila (Right) with Peter Lawwell

New Celtic manager Ronny Deila (Right) with Peter Lawwell

AUTHOR: Shaun Gibson

A huge welcome to Celtic for Ronny Deila, not even near the hot seat till 2 days ago, yet Lennon said Celtic were looking at him to replace Johan Mjällby, in the end Ronny got the hot seat and after spending an afternoon watching his press conference and him speaking directly to Celtic TV we can clearly see we have a confident lad on our hands here

He fits out working model perfectly, we were told this today but we all knew the truth anyway. He does not strike me as a yes man, his passion for the game and what he wants to achieve with Celtic did impress me

I spent a few hours looking on You Tube at his last team’s performances, what he did was likened to St Mirren winning the SPFL, he did well with a bunch of kids. He took a kid called Stefan Johansen, a kid who had bad attitude problems and wasn’t showing his true potential, two years later Johansen is a an International player with Norway and a gem in the middle of the Celtic midfield. If this is a hint at what Ronny can do, I anticipate he will do wonders with Tony Watt and other youth players we have

The man has passion, no doubting that

The man has passion, no doubting that

Having watched about 20 videos I will share this one below, this was from 2012/13 season when they won the league, I think and watch out for our very own Stefan Johansen scoring a few cracking goals. One thing I did notice in the way Ronny set his team up was with a lot of width and this will suit the current Celtic players well. Also opening teams up, possession play and general all round good play. He comes to us with better players around him and we can guess who he will sign, here is the video

Some will say it is a risk, for me Roy Keane for example would have been a bigger risk, I like the way this man talks, I like the way he sets his teams up to play, he really does like to put the opposition on the back foot and it looks like he plays a diamond midfield with the full backs coming into play as wingers almost, this is something we are good at already. We can argue can we get better, the answer is yes, we can always get better. So after watching as much of his team play as I could and listening to the raw passion coming from him, I think this could be a good time for everyone at the club. It is not as if he has to build a new team, he has a good team there at his disposal, if he can improve Forrest, Watt, Henderson etc, well the sky is the limit. He is a manager who likes to get very close to his players and put an arm around them, but he will also kick backsides when needed. All in an interesting appointment by Celtic.

Bring the season on

Welcome aboard Ronny #HH

7 week old blog and my statistics are higher than old blog – Why?

Today is 1 hour old for me here in Scotlandshire

Now before you turn your head to the left (It is always the left) and think “OH SHAUN STOP THIS YOU PLONKER” Let me finish. I closed my old blog 2 months ago, had a weeks break, whatever then opened “ShaunyNews” all over, I re-branded myself so to speak. Not that it means I have anything to brand of course :D I just wanted to  tie it all together like this here below, I figured I wanted to blog in a certain way and on Twitter I am getting followed by Politicians (Good ones) from the UK and Scotland. News outlets have started to follow me. Very odd. I am a total nobody. If truth be told, when I deleted prayingforoneday http://shaunynews.com/2014/04/20/prayingforoneday-is-now-shaunynews-shaun-gibson-please-reblog-2/ I was very close to closing all Social Media I had. I was getting bored. I had personal stuff going on. I was at the PC more than I was or should have been. These days I am not online during the day. it’s 01:30am here and I will probably be awake all night with this chipped bone in my knee, this is a pain I have yet to experience, but for people with Fibro or worse, you know the story. I am still off medication, I take it still when I am climbing walls and screaming in pain. So why do I blog? What drives me to write. Well being unable to do much else is part of it. Sitting in a mini leather lazy boy is comfy for me. I decided to release some family for good. I will still say hi, but they are gone. Fuck them, they only call when they wan’t something and gossip like kids, so I cut that loose, for now anyway. People have a habit of turning back around when it suits them. Anyway. I probably wrote more than I should have here. I just don’t get why so many people read my crap :D   ShaunyNews Bloghttp://shaunynews.com/

Celtic fly past United in easy 2-0 win

Commons played in Stokes who beat his man to fire home for 2-0

Shaun Gibsonby Shaun Gibson

Probably as good a performance we have seen this season, with so many players missing Scott Brown was pitched in at right back, Henderson started the game again, Griffiths started from the bench and again we see 3 minutes of Balde

This really was an easy game, the tactics today were spot on, when the full backs go up the park Kayal drops in ready to go either side, middle 3 started with Henderson, Johansen and Kayal, Sammy wide left Commons right with Stokes getting fed in by Commons and Samaras

It took Celtic 5 minutes to get 1-0 ahead, we won a free kick 40 yards out near the main stand, a superb cross into the box by Commons and Sammy got ahead of his marker to volley home for a superb goal and from a player who played well today. United had spells on the ball but they rarely bothered Forster in goal

2-0 came 20 minutes later and a superb team goal, passing by Johansen, Henderson and Samaras, the ball was given to Commons, with one touch he played the ball onto the on running Stokes who took it in his stride and his first touch took him past the marker and Stokes fired home high into the net, 25 minutes to go and 2-0

Rarely were Celtic troubled. In the 2nd half the introduction of Mackay-Steven for Dundee United made a huge impact for the start of the second half causing problems for 10/15 minutes till we put Kayal on him and he dropped out the game

Samaras runs off after a brilliant goal in 5 minutes for 1-0

Samaras runs off after a brilliant goal in 5 minutes for 1-0

With Scott Brown at right back United tried most of the game to get behind Brown but credit to Brown he did well the whole game. McNamara is saying to the media United didn’t press Celtic enough but it was men v boys  today, Celtic were a class above and not playing in full gear either

A good 2-0 win, our 28th league win of the season  and getting to 82 goals in League football for the season with 5 games to go. We have 2 games away and we finish the season at Home to Dundee United where we get the Scottish Premiership trophy.

With question marks on several players today proved with who we have missing we are still a quality side. Today Samaras was good he just looked interested. Lennon said after the game it looks like Sammy will be away and to be fair get him off the wage bill, Kayal also wants to leave. With Johansen and Biton proving to be good players I think either way we have a decent squad next season

Today is good, easy 2-0 and we look forward to the last 5 games

Till the next game

Hail, Hail

Celtic beat Partick 5-1 to win League, three in a row!

1-0 after 3 minutes from Stokes

1-0 after 3 minutes from Stokes

Shaun Gibsonby Shaun Gibson

WOW did we win this one in style 5-1 going on 10-1, the first half produces one goal and what a goal it was, Izzy got wide cut onto his right foot and put in a wonderful cross for Stokes to head Celtic into a 1-0 lead and get his 100th Goal in Scottish football, and this was the 3rd minute what a start

On 20 minutes Stokes had a shot from the edge of the box just wide, then Griffiths, Commons and Brown all had chances they couldn’t put away 10 minutes after Stokes shot. Celtic were not at their best in the 1st half but showed everyone watching in the2nd half why we deserve to be top dogs in Scotland. Sure we missed out on the 2 cups but our bread and butter is the League with entry to the Champions League being our goal, next season will be no differed. The half ended 1-0 to Celtic and nerves seemed to be all over the place, all we had to do was win

The second half for me was a show by a team so confident in ability it is frightening, we may have lost Hooper and Wanyama but the rest are there and we added to it

2-0 And what a goal by Henderson

2-0 And what a goal by Henderson

also. At half time Adam Matthews made way for the very impressive Liam Henderson and it took the 17 year old 3 minutes to get Celtic 2-0 up, a cross into the box by Johansen was dummied by Stokes then by Griffiths it left Henderson starting down at goal and he hammered a low shot past the keeper, sheer delight for the kid and the fans behind the goal a brilliant team goal.

Johansen powers Celtic 3-0 ahead

Johansen powers Celtic 3-0 ahead

It took just under 5 minutes for Celtic to get the third a fine through ball by Griffiths to Johansen and with players in the middle screaming for a cut back he drilled a perfect shot low and away from the keeper at the far post, superb a first goal for Henderson and Johansen is starting to pile in with the goals as well

For the next 20 minutes at 3-0 Partick to be fair had a few chances with Forster pulling off a few good saves, at 3-0 I think the players maybe took feet off the gas but they came to life when Partick got a goal back, Van Dick got beat to the ball and a shot not even Forster could save and 3-1 and we thought, Champions.

Well now with this side it seemed to annoy them and Samaras had a hand in what was to come in the final minutes of the game. Samaras had the ball wide left beat a

Stokes after his wonder strike to make it 4-1

Stokes after his wonder strike to make it 4-1

few players played into the feet of Stokes who threw the ball into the air turned and thundered a wonder goal high to the keepers left, what a goal and the fans went crazy, but that wasn’t it, Samaras again won the ball in Celtic’s half ran at the defence 3 on 2 in Celtic’s favour, Sammy looked up and played in Commons who hammered the ball through the legs of the keeper for 5-1 and the final 2 goals coming in added time

Commons makes it 5-1

Commons makes it 5-1

A brilliant 2nd half display and as Lennon said “We can see a good side being built here” and we can, with the quality we have and the player we should bring in come summer time it is a brilliant time to be a Celtic fan.  On and off the park we have never been so healthy

Champions, 3 in a row, I want 10 in a row
