40,000+ sign petition for north of England to join Scotland

I did this exactly 2 weeks ago https://shaunynews.com/2015/05/14/thousands-back-campaign-for-the-north-of-england-to-join-scotland/ it had 5,000 signatures 2 weeks ago, today it has 35,000 more English people wanting to join Scotland. The area that has a small minority signing a petition for this is full of really poor areas. I can’t see it happening but if 40,000 people can turn into a few Million then it will happen. My opinion would be, give the Tory party a year or so to make these people poorer and we might just see 40,000 go up very high very quickly. George Osborne is the only big hitter to have a constituency in this part of England with his seat being in Tatton in Cheshire on the West coast. Interesting times are coming for us all. When Alex Salmond said after the Referendum “Scotland have changed UK Politics forever” He was totally correct, we will keep an eye on this one to see if it grows legs I guess

Could Scotland double or triple in size?

Could Scotland double or triple in size?

More than 40,000 people have signed a petition calling for the north of England to become part of a “New Scotland”. The campaign was launched following the independence referendum but resurfaced after the general election result earlier this month. The petition, set up on website Change.org, has now gathered more than 43,850 signatures. The campaign, set up by Sheffield native Stu Dent (@HomelessStu), states: “The deliberations in Westminster are becoming increasingly irrelevant to the north of England. “The northern cities feel far greater affinity with their Scottish counterparts such as Glasgow and Edinburgh than with the ideologies of the London-centric south.”The needs and challenges of the north cannot be understood by the endless parade of old Etonions lining the frontbenches of the House of Commons. “We, the people of the north, demand that in the event that Scotland becomes independent the border between England and the New Scotland be drawn along a line that runs between the River Dee and the mouth of The Humber.”

Mr Dent, who set up the petition ahead of last year’s IndyRef, said he was shocked at the amount of momentum it has gathered since the Tories swept to power in last week’s general election. He said: “I was very surprised by the response! But in hindsight, perhaps I shouldn’t have been.

“Back in September I wanted to show support for the Yes campaign by highlighting the fact that there are lots of us in England who would wish to see Scotland leave the Union. But, crucially, that this was not motivated by any antipathy towards the Scottish. “Quite the opposite, in fact. There are many of us in the north of England who feel much greater affinity to Scotland that we do to Westminster. “I wanted Scotland to vote Yes because I genuinely believe that Scotland doesn’t need the Old Etonians meddling in Scottish affairs. It’s fair to say that I was more than a little jealous that Scotland was being given this chance. “Then there was a sudden surge of interest in the petition post-election; I’m not sure why,” he explained. “It’s always difficult to tell exactly what’s going on, but reading Twitter’s ‘mood music’ I think that petition was revived as part of a kind of upwelling of celebratory glee following SNP’s remarkable victory. “Another element behind the renewed interest appears to be left-leaning English people who are again gazing wistfully north thinking, ‘I wish that was us’. Because of this interest I thought that we may as well open it again.” “I guess there’s no real point in taking it to Number 10,” Stu concedes. “There are two outcomes really – neither of them will change the world but I hope they might in some small way change the narrative of what has happened or is happening. “I think people need a place to go where they can say, ‘Not in my name! This is not the England I want’. “Or I hope that when David Cameron and George Osborne cast their gaze — Eye of Sauron like — to the north they will register the patches of red in the blanket of blue and think, ‘Hmmmm, not all of the people in this country think like we do’. “What’s needed is less of this tepid ‘Northern Powerhouse’ nonsense and a move to a proper federal government with ‘states’ such as Yorkshire being given as close to free rein as is possible.”
