We are Celtic – and we say NO to Racism

The player step behind the cause

Yet another good story from my club, Glasgow Celtic Football Club. Many Celtic fans will wonder why I say that as our club name rather than just ‘Celtic’ Well most who read here are not from Scotland. I did other blogs here about the ethical way our club is ran. As a club and more important it’s million’s of fans globally we do the right things. We are fair, we don’t cheat and we get recognition for it.

The FIFA Fair Play Award is an award given by FIFA to players who performed fair play in their games or were involved in a specific incident of fair play or the spectators were given for their good behaviour for a long period of time or fighting against racism. In 2003, Celtic fans were awarded for their behaviour and bonhomie in the UEFA Cup Final in Seville.
No fans were arrested, and the behaviour was exemplary (relatively for a travelling football support), and the award was an unexpected delight for all connected to the club. Thanks and praise must also be given to the Porto fans who were well received by the Celtic fans as well on the day.

AS the European football family begins its fortnight of action to campaign against discrimination and promote inclusion Celtic Football Club is delighted to once again make a strong statement against racism.
Between now and October 22, activities are being held in more than 45 European countries and as a club participating in European competition, Celtic, in association with UEFA will broadcast this strong message to a huge audience.
Within this period, Celtic will also work locally with other Scottish clubs and the Show Racism the Red Card campaign and at every SPFL game next weekend, clubs will be united in calling for an end to racism.
Celtic captain Scott Brown said: “Celtic has been a club open to all people since its formation in 1888.
“Our club and the Celtic team are once again delighted to support all activities within this fortnight of action as we continue to send the strongest message that racism has no place whatsoever in football or society.”
