Scans of King Tut’s burial chamber show hidden rooms that could contain organic material

Chances are high that the tomb of Ancient Egypt's boy-king Tutankhamun has passages to a hidden chamber, which may be the last resting place of Queen Nefertiti, and new evidence from the site will go to Japan for analysis, experts said on Saturday. Analysis of scans of famed King Tut’s burial chamber has revealed two hidden rooms that could contain metal or organic material, the Egyptian antiquities minister Mamdouh el-Damaty has said.

Japanese analysis showed chambers that would be scanned again at the end of the month, he said in a news conference on Thursday in Cairo.

Mr Damaty said he thought the new chambers could contain the tomb of a member of Tutankhmun’s family, but would not speculate on Nefertiti – who was one of the wives of Tutankhmun’s father, the Pharoah Akhenaten, but is not believed to be his mother.
