The Poem Of Disability

abbey-banner-1105px_wide-1

Surrounded by love, but feeling alone

Surrounded by Childs laughter, trying to connect

Surrounded by light, stuck in the darkness

Surrounded by sadness, but it’s really madness

~~

Covered in pain, it’s not a shame

Covered in love, I can’t feel it

Covered with life, feeling lifeless

Covered in money, feeling so poor

~~

Hearing laughter, feelings hatred

Hearing anger, wanting to kill it

Hearing Sadness, want to silence it

Hearing hatred, unable to connect

~~

Fearing alone, nobody can reach me

Fearing nothing, fearing nothing

Fearing sad, can’t reach happy

Feeling angry, hate that feeling

~~

Staring into nowhere, wishing I was there

Staring at my kids, wishing I wasn’t me

Staring into loves eyes, can’t connect it

Staring into the abyss, wishing I could touch it

~~

Standing at the junction, left or right?

Standing in a crowd, but standing alone

Standing on my own, feeling sad, feeling angry

Standing at the precipice, hoping it all ends

~~

Pain so hard it’s just a matter of fact

Pain that speaks for you, acts for you

Pain wanting to sympathy, no understanding

Pain that takes you away, leaving love alone

Pain, alone, sad, angry, wishing it away

  1. A very powerful poem matey. I can feel the separation that your disability creates for you. Standing on the outside looking into a life that you can’t really have yet want so badly. Wanting to be, feel and touch in order for others to understand how lonely it is to have a disability they do not understand, nor can they comprehend. The isolation you feel even though you are not alone in your fight. Wanting to accepted for who you are and how you feel.

When someone can express such feelings with such powerful words it is a humbling experience for any reader. Keep ’em coming matey.

    • Yeah that mate, word for word. Solitude, utter, utter solitude, even though there is none. I want to sing, have done since I was young. Took a few singing lessons but the pain was too much. But I need to sing, I need these words in a song, not for me, but for others. The connection between people can only be done with powerful words. Religion, Politics, Sports, so many things that do connect people, but not everyone. Music is the ONLY thing that we can connect Globally as a species too…What is holding me back? lol

Appreciated your words mate. You are a real poet, so cheers Patrick.

      • Physical training stopped. I did a lot of damage to myself. Tried to get as strong as I could to get back to life….couldn’t do it….but I can try this. A few friends are helping me with something…Should have a video in a month maybe…
Got to keep the mind active, or you lose it and burden people you don’t even know..lol

        Cheers

  2. Disability? A disability is only being able to teach your hand to write. Teaching your heart to skip some beats and pen that kind of stuff is a gift. It is as much a gift to others as it is from God to you. I wish I had a word to add to that , but Im still writing with my hand..
    Awesome.
